GRADES 4 TO 8 · START WITH THE BASICS
Prépositions et parole
A little word helps you say where, when or with whom. Hear a model, try it, then say something to a partner. You can keep the words in front of you.
Choose the same unit and day as your practice lesson.
A little speaking, every day
All grades begin with familiar objects and short sentences. The model stays available when you need it.
START HERE IF THESE WORDS ARE NEW
Où est le crayon?
Look, choose the missing words, then say the whole sentence. A partner can point to show they understood.
Find a word or example
Choose one or two words to try. Longer expressions are here when you are ready.
No matches. Try a shorter word or another category.
à + le = au · à + les = aux · de + le = du · de + les = des
Keep à la, à l’, de la and de l’ as they are: près du livre, à côté de la boîte, à l’école.
Dedans and dehors can stand alone: « Le crayon est dedans. » Name the container with dans: « Le crayon est dans la boîte. »
Teacher language notes
Depuis links a starting point or length of time to an ongoing situation. Pendant and durant describe a duration or period and can be used with past, present or future contexts. OQLF: depuis; Language Portal of Canada: durant and pendant.
À cause de often introduces an unwelcome cause; grâce à usually presents a helpful cause. The speaker's meaning matters.
